TIGERWOOD SNARE - 14" x 7"

The latest from the Rhino workshop is a 14" x 7" solid stave snare, hand-built from Tigerwood  — one of the world's most coveted exotic hardwoods. Unlike mass-produced ply shells, stave construction joins solid vertical staves of pure hardwood, so the grain runs upright and unbroken around the entire drum — nothing but solid Tigerwood between you and the sound. Warm honey-amber tones laced with rich chocolate striping, sealed beneath a hand-applied mirror-gloss finish so deep you can see the room reflected in the wood. No two shells will ever look alike. Yours will be the only one of its kind.

Voice

Stave shells are prized for a reason: with no plies and no glue layers dampening the wood, the shell speaks with the full, open voice of solid timber. Here, a precision 3/8" shell paired with substantial 1/2" reinforced rims delivers a crisp, cutting attack carried on a foundation of warmth and depth. Individually mounted, faceted chrome lugs float against the grain, each isolated on its own gasket to let the shell resonate freely. Polished chrome hoops frame a smoked batter head bearing the Rhino emblem, with a full set of bright snare wires beneath a hand-finished bearing edge. Every piece of hardware is brand new — and every chrome surface mirrors the wood it's mounted to.

Heritage Hardwood

Tigerwood has earned its reputation among fine craftsmen for good reason. With a Janka hardness approaching 2,200 lbs, it is extraordinarily resilient — and its naturally high oil content renders it impervious to decay and wear without a single chemical treatment. This is a drum built not for years, but for generations.

An Instrument to Be Experienced

The polished chrome Rhino badge, set in black against the striped grain, marks this as one of the finest snares to ever leave our shop. Photographs capture only a fraction of its presence. To truly understand it, you must watch the gloss catch the light — and hear it.
