This snare is a bit different.  It's construction is segmented vs stave.  This shell is made from Walnut, Maple, Oak and Locust woods.

Stave and segmented are both boutique methods of drum construction that bypass the glued thin sheets (plies) used in mass-produced drums. They differ primarily in wood grain orientation and how the wood blocks are stacked, which directly affects the drum's tone, volume, and sustain.

Segmented shells are often compared to stacking bricks. They are constructed by stacking pre-cut wooden rings or individual arcs flat on top of one another.  The grain direction differs from stave in that the wood grain runs horizontally around the circumference of the drum.  Segmented drums tend to have a slightly brighter, extremely focused, and crisp attack.  They generally yield a shorter, tighter sustain compared to stave shells.  The stacked-ring method allows builders to create highly intricate, multi-wood geometric patterns and stripe designs.
